metaphor is a textile and design studio incepted in the year 2000 by Chandrashekar. He is the chief artisan, heading a small group of trained textile craftsmen and women.
metaphor’s studio-line clothing focuses on form, authentic textiles and unique textures. Being self-trained, Chandrashekar instinctively works as an artisan and his design approach is artisanal. Exploring the inherent qualities of the fabric and documenting changes that the yarn or textile goes through in the process of dyeing, printing and stitching, form an integral part of his work. His forte lies in pattern-making.
metaphor is a zero-wastage unit, producing colourful and vibrant textiles out of discarded post-production cloth. Redefining individually crafted pieces; bringing various elements of craft into play to create unorthodox forms and exploring tactile elements to offer experiences to be perceived by touch, is metaphor’s premise.
